Holmdel Junior Hornets Wrestling Team Qualifies for Jersey Shore Wrestling League Playoffs

After a slow start to begin the season, the Holmdel Junior Hornets rebounded in a major way with key wins against tough Colts Neck and Marlboro programs in their final two division matches of the year.   The consecutive wins helped Holmdel claim their spot in the Jersey Shore Junior Wrestling League Playoffs for the third time in four years.  The match verse Marlboro was a back and forth battle with both teams taking the lead and tying repeatedly throughout the contest.  Wrestlers from both sides fought off their backs, when in trouble, and several of the matches were decided by two points or less.  The energy in the gym was fantastic with fans from both sides cheering on their teams.  In the end, Holmdel prevailed and pulled ahead for good with big wins from their captains Scott Dupont, Dean Gallo, Johnny Dietrich and Zach Bair.  The 2013-14 Hornets team is led by undefeated captains Scott Dupont and Zach Bair.  Both are currently 13-0 on the season in their respective weight classes and should be #1 seeds during the individual tournament that concludes the season.  The top of the lineup for Holmdel is filled with talent and strength.  Along with DuPont and Bair, up top Holmdel boast Nicky Ammirati (8-4), Tommy Ilvento (7-1), Tommy Ammirati (8-4), Dean Gallo (11-1), Tiago Braga (7-6), Johnny Dietrich (11-2) and Jake Leroux (6-2).  Dietrich started the season 0-2 before picking up steam and winning 11 consecutive bouts to date.  Dean Gallo has been a top performer all year as well, with his sole loss to the undefeated #1 seed of Colts Neck.  The bottom of the lineup features AJ Fernandez (8-4) and Brian Frothingham (9-3) both tough and gritty wrestlers that have shown tremendous growth and promise for the Junior Hornets squad.  The rest of the lineup is certainly paying dividends and improving by having such leadership on the team.  The playoffs begin on February 8th.
