What Should Holmdel-Hazlet Patch Write About in 2013?
What do you think are the issues coming up in 2013?
Every township has its accomplishments, its gems, its ups and its downs. And no one ever knows these issues better than the residents that fill Holmdel and Hazlet.
As your two new editors of Holmdel-Hazlet Patch, we know what we're chomping at the bit to write about.
But as residents, have your ear to the ground. So, as we move into a new year, we'd like to hear about what is truly important to you.
I'll follow up on all of your suggestions the best I can. And remember, anything you are truly passionate about should be shared by, well, you! Don't forget about our Local Voices section, where the community gets to interact with each other on Patch.

A column on everyday heroes in our community. People who volunteer for all the little things that make our community and society a better place. There are so many out there who donate time and energy helping at churches, working with the elderly or children, rescuing dogs and cats, training and bringing therapy dogs to nursing homes, etc. They're heroes in the lives of someone and I think their stories would be inspiring.

I would like to read in Patch about redevelopment details for the big Alcatel-Lucent site, and also any information on this year's developing municipal budget (which skyrocketed so enormously in 2012).

The News.
Seriously, Holmdel is grossly undercovered by traditional media - especially the day to day stuff.
Good litmus test of newsworthiness - "If you and a bunch of Holmdel citizens were gathered around the water-cooler, what would you gossip about? Some suggestions - Crime, Corruption, Accidents, Road Construction, Political Catfights, What stores, businesses are entering/leaving the area. Any useful crisis-info (i.e how to cope with personal problems in the midst of or anticipating a crisis. Who died. Who was born. Who got promoted. Who was honored. Favorite (restaurant, supermarket, pizza, dept. store, gas/service station etc.) reader polls, Restaurant of the Week.
Specifically - Lucent-Alcatel tracker; Status of ShopRite move to replace Foodtown on Rt. 35, Hazlet; Local Produce in Season and Available at:_______;

Jeff: Wholeheartedly agree. To become a true venue for all matters local would be great (as it was designed to be). But, unfortunately, almost every topic seems to take a wrong turn at Albuquerque on the way to Pismo Beach (as Bugs Bunny might say). You could be posting about the beauty of a solitary red rose on the side of the road in Holmdel, and how sublime it is to envision as the sun slowly sets on the horizon on a warm, spring evening and within a day you will have 87 comments responding with things like: "The road it is on needs repaving! When is the TC gonna do something about it?", or "Where is the taxpayer money coming from for these flowers cropping up ALL over town?", or "Another move by the (insert targeted political party here) to push their environmental agenda!". How about we just start to love the roses, folks? And all the great things our town and surrounding towns have to offer instead of spewing venom in the comments section 24/7? This has been your deep thought for the day. Peace and love. :)

Certainly the progress of the development of the Lucent site should be the primary concern for Holmdel residents.
Also the schools should be closely covered as well. I was at the last BOE meeting and coming down the pike will be teacher evaluations....that will be an interesting development as they discussed that tenure could ultimately be taken away from a failing teacher......BOUT TIME
