The Jersey Shore Chinese School (JSCS) held its annual Chinese New Year celebration at Holmdel High School on Saturday.

On the Chinese calendar, Feb. 10, 2013 through Jan. 30, 2014 marks the Year of the Snake. The JSCS has held a celebration of the Chinese New Year since the school was founded some 35 years ago, according to JSCS Cultural Director Cindy Chiang.

This past weekend's event drew over 400 people, Chiang said.

The celebration included a talent show by JSCS students featuring traditional Chinese dances. A gift auction and reception with a copious amount of food followed the talent show.

The highlight of this year's Chinese New Year event featured some impressive dance steps by school administrators and elected officals. A dance routine to Korean pop star Psy's Youtube.com sensation "Gangnam Style" included Freeholder Serena DiMaso, Holmdel School District Superintendent Barbara Duncan and former Holmdel BOE member Dr. Ray Tai, and current members Chiung-Yin Cheng Liu, Mike Sockel, Robin Wetmore and Ana Vander Woude, as well as JSCS school officials.

"All the Holmdel VIPs and the principal were in it and they really danced," Chiang said.
