Union Beach Wind Turbine Delivery Could Delay Traffic the Week of July 23
The wind turbine parts headed for Union Beach will first pass through Marlboro, Matawan and Hazlet.
Trucks carrying the parts for the controversial wind turbine construction project at the Bayshore Regional Sewage Authority (BRSA) facility in Union Beach are slated to pass through Monmouth County the week of July 23. Because of the oversized loads, however, some traffic delays can be expected.
The Conti Group, the project delivery group hired by BRSA, will transport the massive wind turbine materials from Newark to Union Beach by passing through Old Bridge and connecting to Marlboro where it will head east on county road 520 and turn up Wyncrest Road toward Route 79. It wll follow 79 into Matawan, where it will go through Main Street, over the NJ Transit train tracks and turn right on the Route 35 to head through Hazlet toward Union Beach. The seemingly odd route was chosen to help offset costs.
"It's not likely that we will damage anything, but we're taking every precaution," Conti project manager Eric Millard told Patch. He also said that the route has been carefully mapped out and town officials have given approval. Although they will be carrying oversized loads, the trucks will "not be any heavier than regular concrete trucks that you see in the area."
The Union Beach Borough Council authorized a special counsel in late June to seek an injunction from the state Superior Court that would block the transport of the wind turbine, but so far no hearing date for the injuction has been set.
"We do have a set schedule that we're following," he continued, but would not say which exact dates the delivery would be made aside from the fact that they would start on July 23. According to a June 27 article from National Wind Watch, however, the parts will be delivered "over the course of 7-10 business days, Monday through Thursday, between the hours of 9 a.m. to 5 p.m."
According to a press release from Marlboro Police Capt. Steve Menonna, the turbine is divided into three different sections, and each section will be transported along the route on different days throughout the week. The Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office will escort each transport, and traffic control will be provided by local police officers. The release also said that traffic delays may be experienced "as utility wires and traffic light arms are moved to allow this oversized load to pass."

Why doesn't the contractor move the sections by heavy lift helicopters? Save motorist roadway delays.

Conti Group and the Bayshore Regional Sewerage Authority are pushing hard to truck this 38-story noisy monstrosity into Union Beach before the Appeals Court hands down rulings on an injunction to prevent the transport and also on the BRSA's right to even truck it in and build it. Due to a loophole, they have a shot at doing this, but the Appeals Court is aware of what's going on and may very well hand down a ruling against them this coming week, I pray they do. This wind turbine will kill home values here, result in health complaints over time from many residents about the noise, kill the view shed, kill birds, and destroy the upswing that UB has been on for some years now. All for Frank "Boss" Wells' dream of being a some kind of pioneer. His legacy will be that of sewage effluent instead of that if he gets his way. This will be a money losing boondoggle, as it is in Falmouth and now Ocean Gate, NJ where the turbines have been shut down do to the health complaints of locals....and there are many more homes in Union Beach close to ground zero than in those towns. And as for NIMBY, the same folks who would call us that fight to keep 7-11's and extra soccer field storage sheds away from their towns...give me a break!

Also, the wind turbine in the photo above is an exceptionally small one for home use. The one planned for Union Beach is 386' tall with blades each the size of a cell tower. You can learn more about this at www.noturbine.com.

And I'd like to add that the world over, people are complaining about damage to their health and home values from industrial scale wind turbines. In places like Denmark, no stranger to wind, it’s the law that homeowners must be compensated for loss-of-value. The BSRA will never guarantee home values, UB residents will have to line up to sue them, more ratepayer expense:

Can't wait to see them get started. Much better than them drilling for oil. Something needs to be done. If you think that turbines are an eyesore. Oil platforms are much worse.

gongshow22, would you mind at all if I build a 38-story industrial oil platform just 1,000 feet from your home? I imagine you would and you would fight like hell to prevent it. Aside from that, the wonders of wind energy is a myth and a sham.
INDUSTRIAL WIND TURBINES DO NOT PROVIDE CLEAN ENERGY! Not one coal or gas plant the world over has been decommissioned because of IWTs...and eliminating our dependence on fossil fuels is their whole purpose. To quote an expert: “Because wind blows intermittently, electric utilities must either keep their conventional power plants running all the time to make sure the lights don’t go dark, or continually ramp up and down the output from conventional coal-or gas-fired generators (called “cycling”). But coal-fired and gas-fired generators are designed to run continuously, and if they don’t, fuel consumption and emissions generally increase.”

The wind industry is built on crony capitalism, it is the only way it can exist. Taxpayer money builds them and power companies are mandated to buy wind generated power at much higher rates than conventionally produced power. There is no true benefit, except to wind power companies, politicians and lobbyists.

Are Conti and the BRSA going to compensate local businesses for business disruption losses due to blocked traffic and the like? And what if they have to disconnect power lines so they can temporarily remove them to allow the trucks to pass through? On a hot summer day that will present real problems for folks, fry a computer ot two, and also hurt businesses. This whole power grab of a move by a lousy stinking sewer plant that thinks it knows better than everybody else in these parts is a really, really stupid idea. How are they getting away with this crap?
