On July 3, Fireworks Will Ignite the Sky Over Hazlet

Larger than usual crowd expected at spruced up Veterans Park to see the July 3 show overhead.

Hazlet Township's newly spiffed-up Veterans' Park will be the site of the annual fireworks show Tuesday night at 9:20 p.m. The park is located at 1776 Union Avenue, next door to the Municipal Building.

Plush new sod, a pretty gazebo, and classic landscaping along the new paved walking paths and the pond are some of the improvements that will greet people coming to watch on the Great Lawn.

With the cancellation of other local fireworks shows, officials are expecting a larger than usual crowd and are advising folks to stake out their spots early. Popular viewing locations are the newly-reopened Great Lawn at Veterans' Park, the parking lots at Kohl's Plaza, Dearborn Market, Middle Road and anywhere you can pull your car over without bothering anyone for as long as it takes to see the show.

Hazlet Swim Club members will be able to swim until 9 p.m. and enjoy the show on the club grounds. DJ Jeremy will be playing music to go with the boom, whistles and loud crackling of the Zambelli fireworks. Food vendors selling hot dogs, sausages, funnel cake and Italian ice will be available in the parking lots.

The Belly Flop Cafe will be open inside the Hazlet Swim & Tennis Club throughout the fireworks. They will also be selling food, ice cream, ices, and other fun foods in the parking lot in front of the pool club.

Thanks for convincing us to try the Hazlet Fireworks. We were down in the dumps because of the cancellation of Kaboom, but decided to give this one a try. We had a wonderful experience, with none of the hassles of getting to/leaving Red Bank. The police went out of their way to help us. We parked in the soccer lot (maybe Kohl's would have been easier), and walked from there to a beautiful lakeside spot. Spouse was happy with funnel cake, kids all seemed to be having a ball, weather was perfect, and fireworks did not disappoint! Should have brought a stronger flashlight for walk back to car, we'll know better when we come back next year!!

Went to Hazlet last night. Was pleasantly surprised. First rate show. And none of the drunken fools that I saw the last few years in Red Bank. Police were great with traffic. We were out of the parking lot in no time and home. Even if Red Bank in on again next year, I am staying in Hazlet.
