The Week Ahead in Holmdel and Hazlet

Kick out the sand from your shoes, because September is starting off with a bang.

 

Here are some interesting event in Holmdel and Hazlet this short week following Labor Day. It's a busy one. You can always find this information in our Event Calendar

Tuesday, Sept. 4

Noon: Holmdel Township Administrator Andy Katz, who was hired one year ago, is scheduled to speak at the Half Century Club at 1 p.m. According to the club's calendar, he'll be giving an overview and taking questions. The meeting is open to all. 

Rave Movie Theater offers the $5 movie tickets on Tuesday, ranging from PG to R. Here's the list with showtimes. Don't arrive late -- in the past the seats have filled up quickly. 

8:00 p.m. The Hazlet Township Committee is scheduled to meet. There will be a preliminary public hearing on a plan to apply for county open space grants related to the Union Avenue Entrance Beautification Project. Development could include benches, banner poles, brick pavers, granite arches, landscaping, and a decorative clock located along the south side of Middle Road and the west side of Union Avenue. There will be a public hearing on an introduced bond ordinance for the replacement of two Union Ave. pedestrian bridges. The ordinance that would authorize spending $210,000 -- with approval for $185,000 in bonds or notes. 

Wednesday, Sept 5:

Back to School at the Holmdel Public School District, St. Benedict School in Hazlet and Baytul-Iman Academy in Hazlet. 

1:30 p.m. For those seniors who are on Garden State Arts Foundation mailing list, a Free Comedy Show at PNC Bank Arts Center. (Two more free shows are coming in September, so get yourself on that list if you are eligible.) 

2 p.m. - 4:15 p.m.: At the Hazlet LibraryMovie Matinee: "Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows". Starring Robert Downey, Jr., Jude Law and Jared Harris.

6:30 p.m. At CareOne in Holmdel: Alzheimer's Benefit at CareOne With Colts Neck Swing Band

7:30 p.m.: HAQLA - Hazlet Area Quality of Life meeting at Hazlet Municipal building's second floor Caucus room. All welcome. 

Thursday, Sept. 6:

Back to school for Hazlet students. 

6:30 - 9:30 p.m.: The annual Bayshore Hospital Foundation Wine and Spirits Tasting. Held at the gorgeous Addison Park on Route 35 in Aberdeen. The event's honoree is the distinguished Holmdel resident and community volunteer, Wendell Smith. You must purchase a ticket for the event.

6:00 p.m. Holmdel HS Boys Varsity Soccer vs. Raritan at Holmdel. 

7:00 p.m. Holmdel Township Committee Meeting. Agenda to come. 

8:00 p.m: The Bayshore Democratic Club is holding its Convention Watch party at Park East. Free appetizers, cash bar, and lots to talk about. 

Saturday, Sept. 8: 

Clean out your junk! Monmouth County Paper-Shredding Event in Hazlet. For residents, its Holmdel Large Item Drop-Off Day. 

Jersey Shore Rose Society Rose Show at Deep Cut Gardens, Middletown. 

Sunday, Sept. 9: 

11 a.m.: Local Food Demo at Dearborn Market, Holmdel. Learn about local farms.

Noon - 7 p.m.: St Benedict Parish Fair ($2 admission) Games, rides, food and vendors. Always a fun time. 

2:00 - 6:00 p.m. Holmdel-based Citizens for Informed Land Use Annual Picnic in Veterans Memorial Park in Phillips Park. ($5 per person; $10 per family)
