Quarterly Sewer Bills: What Do Other People Pay?
Comparing Holmdel's new residential sewer rates vs. other towns
About half the homes in Holmdel Township have sewer service. The rest are septic users.
If you get a sewer bill, your rates just went up on May 5, when the Township Committee approved an ordinance on its third attempt, adopting higher rates.
Patch called around for a local survey of residential rates to compare how Holmdel sewer bills compare against those in other towns. See chart below.
(Note Holmdel is the only town with a three-tiered rate chart for residential users. Everyone else uses a flat rate.)

Holmdel |

(1,670 households) $100 quarterly, up from $86.65: Usage between 6,000 and 12,000 gallons of water, per quarter (619 households) $75 quarterly, up from $67.50: Less than 6,000 gallons of water usage, per quarter (846 households) |

Correction: An earlier version of this story said that Middletown's rate was monthly, but it is in fact, quarterly. "It definitely is the cheapest rate around," said a clerk at the Middletown Township Sewerage Authority.

I think all the towns should look into moving their service to Middletown and dissolve this Authority. I would even ask the towns to end negotiations with the BRSA and not sign contract extensions. They're not due for another 6 months anyway.
And since the BRSA just took property under Eminent Domain, suppose they needed a new pumping station in Holmdel to sewer a large tract. I dare say they could take enough property to build a nice turbine in your town to power it. Juat a thought. Since they already decided they are willing to go against all the towns wishes anyway, it seems more than possible.
