Power Outages Causing Traffic Delays on Route 34 in Matawan-Aberdeen Area
Several Route 34 traffic lights are without power as well as over 2,500 JCP&L customers in Matawan and Aberdeen.
Traffic on Route 34 in Matawan and Aberdeen is moving slowly Thursday afternoon after several street lights lost power.
According to Matawan Lt. Ben Smith, power lines are down near Gravely Brook Park and JCP&L is on their way to the scene. It's unclear at this time if a transformer blew.
Traffic lights at the intersections of Main Street and Route 34, South Atlantic and Route 34, Cambridge Drive and Route 34, and Mill Road and Route 79 are all out, Smith said.
Matawan and Aberdeen police officers are stationed at the affected intersections to help keep traffic flowing. Drivers are asked to use caution.
Over 3,000 JCP&L customers in Matawan, Aberdeen, Holmdel and Hazlet have reported outages to the utility company, including 793 in Matawan, 1,796 in Aberdeen, 45 in Holmdel and 591 in Hazlet.
Residents are asked to refrain from calling police departments to report power outages, as this may clog lines for emergencies. Outages should be reported to JCP&L online or by calling 1-888-544-4877.

My staff was glad to see this news, quickly posed in the Path. Many of them were saved from a horrendous commute thanks to this story.

I think you should clean the cookie crumbs out of your keyboard Joey - it looks like some of your keys are sticking.

Its a shame that when I got home from my bus drivers job the only place I found any news about this was here. And then no follow-up here or elsewhere. Couldnt find it on News12 or the much-praised (by themselves) channel 61 traffic & weather from Optimum cable. I couldn't gas up my bus either because the station along route 34 had no power so I'm going back to school on my own time and I'm guessing the power is back because as I mentioned i could find no follow-up to this event.

It is often hard to check the news when the power is out! All of the local radio stations were reporting it.
