Long-Awaited Asian Food Market Now Open
The grand opening festival is set for Jan. 7.
The parking lot is already bustling, as the much-anticipated Asian Food Market is now open in Marlboro.
Asian Food Market is a full-service market with six locations in New Jersey and New York, and is known for fresh meat, fish and produce as well as traditional cultural ingredients and dishes.
The food market has opened on Rt. 79 in Marlboro, next to the Koo Restaurant. The site was once an Acme supermarket, which closed in 2006.
“For years, shoppers from the Marlboro area have been coming to our store in Piscataway and before that in Edison,” said Anthony Chan, chief financial officer of Asian Food Markets in a news release. “And they had one question: ‘When are you coming to our neighborhood?’”
According to the news release, the Marlboro store is 25,000 square feet. The store will open Sunday-Thursday 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday and Saturday 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.
“We want all shoppers, of any ethnicity, to make Asian Food Markets a regular shopping location for so many of our fresh products. Then, we can entice them to try some of our special Asian products," Chan said.
"Instead of being regarded as a supermarket for Asian people, we want to be considered a supermarket for everyone that specializes in fresh, quality products of all kinds, including specialty items from all over Asia. Shopping with us can be a culinary adventure.”
The grand opening festival will take place on Jan. 7 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and will feature the Lunar New Year Lion Dance and Dragon Dance, and samples of Asian cuisine.
