A Keansburg man who was found wandering into a Virginia Avenue backyard on June 18 with a backpack holding a pocketknife, crowbar, screwdriver and gloves was indicted by a Monmouth County Grand Jury on one count of attempted burglary today. 

The jury's decision formalizes charges against Abraham Feliciano, 31, of Church Street in Keansburg. Attempted burglary is a third degree crime. If convicted on the charge, Feliciano could face a 3-5 year jail term.  

Feliciano's arrest by Hazlet Police came after a spate of residential burglaries in the neighborhood, and in nearby sections, where homeowners reported jewelry and cash thefts from master bedrooms. In each case, the intruder broke through the house through a pried-open side or rear window. 

On the day of his arrest, Feliciano, a former graduate of Raritan High School Class of 2000, told police he was going into the Virginia Avenue backyard, near the intersection with Vermont Ave.,  to urinate. 

Hazlet Police had been alerted by two residents who grew suspicious of the stranger in their neighborhood. Police charged Feliciano with possession of burglary tools and defiant trespass. 

A judge set bail at $1,000, but because of a violation of probation warrant by Ocean Township Police for failure to pay fines, Feliciano was also held on $25,000 bail at the Monmouth County Correctional Facility in Freehold. He posted bail and was believed to have been in New York state in recent months.
