John "Pop" Avagliano of Lily Tulip Cup Dies at 96
Avagliano began working at Lily Tulip Cup in Holmdel, and later worked at the Wanamassa Elementary School until he retired.
John Avagliano, 96, of Neptune, passed away peacefully Friday, February 15, 2013. Born in Salerno, Italy he served in the Italian Navy, stationed on the "Zara", during World War II. In 1953, John moved his family to America and settled in New Jersey.
He began working at Lily Tulip Cup in Holmdel, and later worked at the Wanamassa Elementary School until he retired. After a short time being retired, John helped his daughter with her restaurant business at Carmela's Luncheonette until 2011. The customers at the luncheonette knew him as "Pop". He was a devoted member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Roman Catholic Church. He will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him.
John was predeceased by his wife of 65 years, Ameriga, a sister, Carmela, three brothers, Salvatore, Angelo, and Domenico. He is survived by his brother, Ciro and his wife, Joanne, his sister Rosa (Italy), daughter , Lea Tallarico and daughter, Carmela West and her husband, Skip, four grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
