'Hope for Children' Event Honors Scott McGinn of Hazlet
Tickets are on sale for the 3rd Annual Rolling Greens Golf Invitational & Wine Tasting Event Oct. 9.
Hope for Children Foundation will honor Hazlet native Scott McGinn at its sole 2012 event, a wine tasting and golf outing at Trump National in Colts Neck on Tuesday, Oct. 9.
McGinn, 34, the director of luxury suites for the Knicks and Rangers at Madison Square Garden, has been instrumental in helping the charity raise over $1 million for children with needs, said HFCF President Eric Hinds.
"He has been a huge help over the last seven years, providing tremendous gifts from his sports contacts for our golf outing," said Hinds, who is also the deputy mayor of Holmdel.
The event, dubbed the Rolling Hills Golf Invitational and Wine Tasting, will include a putting and chipping contest, "Beat the Pro", one-on-one on the green, a 50-50 raffle, cigar rolling, dinner auction, and a contest where a golfer making a "Hole in One" wins a car.
The wine tasting will be sponsored by The Wine Academy of Hazlet.
Hope for Children is comprised of Monmouth County residents -- many from Middletown, Holmdel and Hazlet -- who work together to raise funds, with the end result of making a significant difference in the lives of those who need it most. In the past, the group has helped Big Brothers Big Sisters, Family Promise and Prevention First.
A portion of the proceeds of this year's event will go to Brandon Kucowski, a 10-year old boy who was born with Schizencephaly, a rare disorder malformation of the brain that effects the central nervous system. The funds will help him buy a Quadriciser motorized therapy system to stimulate the brain and improve muscle function. (See the video on the side of this article.)
Scott McGinn was introuced to Hope for Children through is brother, attorney Tim McGinn, a Hazlet resident who practices lawn in Holmdel, and who serves as the charity's attorney.
Scott McGinn has been able to share his contacts with the professional sports industry with the group. He said he is "humbled" to be honored, but gives credit to his parents for showing him the joy of helping others. He is grateful to his wife, Karen, for being so supportive. The couple have three young children, Liam, Addison and Aiden
As for his golf game, McGinn said he's no professional.
“I play to my limitations which at times may surprise people," he said. "But for every birdie I score, I follow it up with a double par on the next hole.”
