Hazlet Dentist Joins Stem Cell Donor Match Campaign
Dr. Jeffrey Sachs of Hazlet will swab you now.
When Dr. Jeffrey Sachs heard about the Smiles for Shira campaign, he asked how he can help.
Sachs is a general dentist with a practice on Middle Road and Poole Avenue in Hazlet, and a personal friend of Shira and Justin Klein in Marlboro. He is inviting people to come into his dentistry office to be swabbed on the inside of a the cheek in the chance they could be the donor that saves the life of the young mother of three.
"It's like looking for a needle in a haystack," he said. "But we have to try."
Already, several people have come forward to be swiped for the national bone marrow and stem cell registry, where thousands more wait for a match.
Sachs' office is located at 812 Poole Avenue, at Middle Road, on the second floor. Call the office at 732-739-0900.
Shira Klein of Marlboro was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma in 2010. She has experienced diagnosis, remission and relapse just in the last two years. You can read more about her story and the campaign on the Smiles4Shira Facebook page.
In October, 587 people were swabbed a little over six hours at a Smiles for Shira event at Dance Attitudes in Marlboro.
