Fire in West Keansburg Home Draws Large Response From Bayshore Fire Departments [Video]

Smoke was seen billowing from the Compton Avenue home.

Fire blazed in the second story of a West Keansburg home Tuesday night as fire departments from at least four Bayshore towns worked to battle the flames.

As of 10:29 p.m., smoke was billowing from 97 Compton Avenue as firefighters used a ladder to access the roof and bring the fire under control before the flames could spread to neighboring homes on the tightly situated street.

It is unknown at this time what caused the fire and if anyone was injured or displaced.

Firefighters from Hazlet, West Keansburg, North Centerville, Union Beach, Middletown and Matawan all responded to the scene, in addition to the Hazlet Township Police Department, Hazlet First Aid and Rescue Squad and Monmouth County Fire Marshall.

Patch will update this story as more information becomes available.

Just a couple of questions here... Why didn't the other two fire companies in Keansburg respond for mutual aid? Are the "North Centerville", Union Beach, Middletown & Matawan fire companies closer than "New Point Comfort and Keansburg Fire Company #1? Perhaps Matawan serves as the "FAST" or "RIT" team for West Keansburg Fire Company? Just seems like the mutual aid companies came from quite a distance? I am very new to the area but that just seems strange. Does anyone know why the "other" two fire companies in Keansburg were not called for mutual aid? Is it politics? Just curious in case god forbid, I have a fire at my home will I need to wait for fire companies from many miles away to come to the rescue because of "politics"?

^ This is because West Keansburg is part of Hazlet Twp. not Keansburg, They are two seperate towns. As far a response goes North Centerville and Hazlet #1 are the other two Fire Companies within Hazlet Twp. So they respond automaticly. Union Beach and Matawan are at the there for RIT teams because Keansburg FD is not a RIT team. As for Middletown they were only there to fill SCBA bottles because the truck that Hazlet Twp has for that is out being repaired from Hurricane Sandy. All the fire companies within Hazlet Twp have a very good response time and are not many miles from any where in town. Hope this answers some questions.

Yes it does Joe, having a working Cascade system on a truck is sure better than having to wait to fill the bottels at the firehouse, that's for sure... Glad everyone was ok, tell the laddies, "job well done"...
