Real estate is not an "Investment"___instead today it is an ever growing Liability.
Ever increasing costs for: real estate taxes, heating bills, water bills, sewer bills, home owners insurance, replacement heating and a/c systems, maintenance costs etc. Make home ownership today a relentlessly ever increasing burden on any families finances. Since workers wages are not going up and in many cases combined family incomes are decreasing____there is no valid reason to believe any home purchased today will have a higher resale values in 5,10, 15 years from now.

Plus however many 100s Avaya turns out to be plus 192 from an even nearer Bamm Hollow on Holmdel's border and 200+ from Lucent (Impreveduto's folly): there goes the property values, here comes Holmdel Exit 116, a dagger right thru the heart of Holmdel compliments on your non-thinking governing body.

Agree, last thing that we need in our town is more housing. The bordering areas of Middletown are about to undergo significant changes, as Tony noted, our roads will be overwhelmed as is. The schools cannot support a significant increase in students without extensive and potentially detrimental restructuring. A lot of houses are sitting around for many months, waiting to be sold, not too many buyers out there, apparently. Let's get realistic and redirect our priorities in this town to commercial development (is Google looking for a nice campus in NJ, maybe? :))

Eve, I agree with you 100% that new housing should be extremely limited, BUT to say that the schools can not support an increase in students is simply false.
According to Holmdel's BOE website, enrollment is down..
Village School and Indian Hill schools are no where near capacity..

Please check the BOE website.

One could argue, we need students...

I agree that our schools could use more students as enrollments have been consistently going down for several years.

So more housing on a limited basis is a good thing. I believe the Lucent Redevelopment plan called for no more than 40 SF homes, so that is certainly a doable amount.

Eve's comments about a an extensive and possible detrimental restructuring are just baseless and used to just scare people...40 new homes will do nothing detrimental to the schools.

If our enrollments are going down, how come our property taxes keep going up? Are we paying for our former township employees pensions? I just looked at the Gannett data base for NJ retirees, one of our former CFO's who shall remain nameless, who got his salary pumped up by 50% in his last three years, now receives $80,000 based on a final salary of $153,000!!!! I won't even go in to the former police chiefs, lawyers, and engineers!!! This is unsustainable folks and we need to do something about it before the roof caves in!

Did I mention that former state senator John Bennett gets $90,000 per year? Now head of the Monmouth County Republicans!!! I have voted for every Republican since Barry Goldwater. As long as Bennett is still there, I refuse to vote for any Monmouth County Republicans, including Kyrillos!!!!!!!!! Let's start cleaning up this mess, not making it worse!!!!!!!!!!!
