Township Mayor expected to name appointments at January 3 meeting

 

Make a New Year's resolution to make a difference in Holmdel. Just be sure to do it before midnight tonight.

The development of the Lucent property, Bayonet Farm's evolution, recreational opportunities and township commercial revenue opportunities are  just some of the issues you can have an impact on by joining a town committee. 

You must submit an application to be considered for an appointment by the township's mayor, which will be announced at the Jan. 3 reorganization meeting, beginning at 6:30 PM.

The following list of committees contains a summary of the description provided by the Township:

Agricultural Advisory Committee: Reviews applications for farmland preservation and is active in all aspects of Township farmland projects. The Committee will review farm leases with regard to cover crop and report to the Township Committee on the condition of the fields.

Bayonet Farm Committee: Charged with the maintenance and programming at Bayonet Farm. Also oversees the catering/event space capital project. Meets monthly, but also run various events throughout the year.

Board of Health The Board administers and enforce all township health ordinances. Meets approximately eight times a year.

Cool Cities Committee Green Team:  Research and recommend environmental 'go green' policies. Identify specific measures that the Township can take to increase energy efficiency, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and global warming, and protect the environment.

Economic Development Committee:

Conducts a study and survey of the opportunities of the Township for the development and expansion of business enterprises; analyzes the various business trends of the nation with relevance to Holmdel, and more. Meets monthly.

Environmental Commission: Conducts research into the use and possible use of the open land areas of the Township, coordinates the activities of unofficial bodies organized for similar purposes. Publishes and distributes books, maps, charts, plans and pamphlets. Maintains an index of all open areas, publicly or privately owned, including open marshlands, swamps and other wetlands, and more. Meets monthly.

Financial Advisory Committee:  Reviews the financials of the township and makes recommendations to improve revenues ad more. Meets intermittently.

Open Space Advisory Council Reviews and recommends parcels of land to be included in the Open Space Plan, recommends land acquisition and preservation, and more. Meets quarterly.

Parks & Recreation Advisory Committee: Oversees the recreation activities, field usage and fees. Meets six times a year, on Tuesday evenings. 

Planning Board: Master Plan development, subdivision and site plan issues; site plan applications and more. Meets bi-monthly.

Recycling and Solid Waste: Reviews township recycling policies, reviews contracts for recycling. Meetings are as needed.

Shade Tree Committee: Encourages and reviews planting and care of shade and ornamental trees and shrubbery on public and on private property. Meets monthly.

Traffic Safety Advisory Committee  Reviews traffic conditions, needs for bike and pedestrian paths, and makes safety recommendations. Meets monthly.

Zoning Board of Adjustment  Hear and decide appeals; grant variances, and more. They meet bi-monthly.
