HHS Future Physicians of America Club Hears from a Professional
On Wednesday, the Holmdel High School’s Future Physicians of America (FPA) Club welcomed Michael P. Carson, M.D., Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine and Obstetrics & Gynecology at UMDNJ – RWJMS. He is also the Director of Research, Department of Medicine Jersey Shore University Medical Center.
Dr. Carson is a general internist (or "primary care physician") who also specializes in treating women who have medical disorders before or during pregnancy.
The Future Physicians of America Club provides a forum for students interested in the future challenges of the medical world to learn more about physician careers.
Dr. Carson met with club members and discussed the best ways to prepare for a career in medicine, from balancing school and social activities, to the rigors of pre-medical school studies.
Contending that today’s teens face so many challenges, Dr. Carson says “Getting into college these days is a huge task, and trying to clarify a career decision at this time is harder. It’s nice that Holmdel High supports the students in the FPA club and offers them a chance to meet with people who can provide information about the challenges and rewards of a career in medicine.”
