Dining with Breast Intentions

Cliff Moore and Mitzy Moore have partnered with Breast Intentions and will be donating 10% of the Keyport IHOP sales every Thursday in February. Valentines Day falls on a Thursday this year; a great day to take that special person out for a meal and contribute to this cause.

There will be volunteers from Breast Intentions sharing information about their organization and handing out literature on Breast Cancer.

The goal of Breast Intentions is to provide crisis intervention for women who are facing financial hardship as they battle breast cancer. Additionally, through their Pink Pact Initiative, it is the goal of Breast Intentions to educate young women about breast health and the need for regular breast self-examinations.

When they were just 15 years old, cousins Erika Rech and Mike Ruane found out that one of their family members was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer. Six months later, a second family member was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer. Throughout diagnosis and treatment, Erika and Mike witnessed firsthand the devastating effect that cancer can have on a family. “The more we learned about breast cancer, and the treatment, costs and pain it causes, the more compelled we felt to help out families struggling with this disease.” They vowed to form an organization to help families navigate through a cancer diagnosis by providing resources and emotional and financial support.

Through their determination, Breast Intentions (formerly Breast Friends Forever), was created. Mike and Erika rely solely on donations to fund their cause. These two high school students began researching non-profits and raising money for families during their freshman year. They made their first donation in August of 2007. Erika and Mike enlisted the help of family and friends and continue to make a difference today.

“When I heard the story of Erika, Michael and Breast Intentions, I had to ask myself how can we help?" said Mitzy Moore. After talking it over with her husband Cliff, they decided to not just make a donation but to also raise the awareness of Breast Cancer and the Breast Intentions Organization in community.
